Wisconsin Supreme Court Preserves Its Privacy.

The justices of the Wisconsin Supreme Court will continue to deliberate largely in private.

Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson recently proposed that the justices open up all of their court conferences to the public in an effort to promote greater civility between the justices. Relations between the judges have been severely strained.

“Transparency will help assure the public that we are working in a collegial fashion,” Abrahamson said of her proposal for open case deliberations, which would have marked a dramatic departure from the closed-door fashion in which appellate courts typically operate.
