Prop. 8 Defenders Oppose Televising Closing Arguments

Defenders of California’s ban on same-sex marriage urged a federal judge to reject a request to broadcast the final stage of the historic trial involving the legal challenge to Proposition 8.

In a letter to Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, lawyers for the Proposition 8 defense team formally opposed a bid by media groups to broadcast and webcast the June 16 closing arguments in the trial. Charles Cooper, Proposition 8’s lead attorney, called the case “ill-suited” for breaking with federal court traditions forbidding cameras in trials.
