Specter Urges Justice Stevens to Remain on Court

Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Penn.) said that Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens should stay on the court for another term instead of retiring this spring because Specter is not sure the Senate could confirm a replacement this year.

“I hope to begin a little earlier, that Justice Stevens does not retire this year,” Specter said on “Fox News. “I think the gridlock in the Senate might well produce a filibuster which would tie up the Senate about a Supreme Court nominee. I think if a year passes, there’s a much better chance we could come to a consensus.”
